Up to four high-resolution cameras, or a single bullet-proof pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) head, are attached to a telescopic tower, capable of being wound up to 7m. Night vision is facilitated by powerful infrared illuminators, and integrated detectors sense movement or body heat around the site. On alarm, images are transmitted via a 3G wireless network to Camwatch’s national control room, where operators can access the unit’s digital video recorder and challenge suspicious characters over the public address system. The only infrastructure required is a mains power supply. An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is included to maintain surveillance during short-term power outages or disconnections.

A variety of anti-tamper and anti-theft measures are employed to ensure that no one can interfere with the TOWER without being seen.
As soon as:
- A detector or camera is moved, or
- A detector or camera is masked, or
- A detector or camera stops working, or
- Someone approaches a TOWER, or
- A TOWER is moved, or
- A TOWER is hit, or
- The digital recorder stops recording. or
- The power is disconnected (4 hours backup), or
- The network disappears
... an alarm is triggered and the control room team will investigate and call the emergency services if required.
The TOWER includes its own trolley mechanism, and with its independently adjustable legs it can be easily positioned
on site. Units are usually operational within two hours;
TOWERs monitored by Camwatch are available for rental at a fraction of the cost of a security guard. See 'Return on Investment'
